The RØDE PSA1+ is a studio boom arm for positioning a microphone close to the speaker while keeping the main desk area clear. Its parallelogram spring design supports controlled movement, with damped internal springs and a neoprene cover to reduce mechanical noise.

Position Before Processing

A boom arm helps place a microphone consistently at the intended distance and angle. That makes it easier to keep voice level stable without repeatedly changing recording gain.

Manage Movement Noise

Damped springs, the cover and isolated contact points address mechanical noise from the arm. They do not remove speech in the room, keyboard sound in the air or poor microphone placement.

Use the supplied clamp where the desk construction and clearance allow it, or plan for the threaded mount. Check the actual desk material and mounting space before installation.

Check the Full Mounted Weight

The RØDE PodMic and PodMic USB are within the arm’s stated load range. If you add an external shockmount or other hardware, include that weight and verify the mounting thread before assembly.

Support the microphone while changing its angle and leave cable slack around moving joints. Tight cable routing can restrict movement even when the arm itself is correctly positioned.

Build the Recording Chain Separately

USB microphones can route their data cable along the arm, but the PSA1+ does not provide USB power, audio processing or a digital connection of its own.

Allow room for the arm to travel without hitting a screen, shelf or wall. Check the position while sitting normally, then place the microphone according to its pickup direction. Keep the working area clear before swinging the arm away.

For a shared desk, note a comfortable microphone position for each person. Repositioning the arm is usually simpler than compensating for a distant microphone with excessive gain.
