RODE FAQ
Before you buy.
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about RODE microphones and podcast gear.
PodMic or PodMic USB: which one should I get?
The original PodMic is XLR only, so it needs an audio interface or mixer such as the RODE AI-1 or RODECaster Duo. The PodMic USB has both USB-C and XLR outputs, so it can plug straight into a computer now and move to an interface or mixer later.
Dynamic or condenser: which RODE mic suits my room?
Dynamic mics such as the PodMic mainly pick up what is close to them, so they handle untreated rooms and background noise well. Condenser mics such as the NT1 5th Gen capture more detail and more of the room, which suits treated spaces, vocals and voice-over.
What is the difference between the RODECaster Duo and the RODECaster Pro II?
Both are all-in-one audio production studios with mic preamps, faders, pads and a USB connection to your computer. The RODECaster Duo is the compact option with two combo inputs for one or two hosts, while the RODECaster Pro II has four combo inputs for larger podcast setups.
Which boom arm should I pair with my RODE microphone?
The PSA1 and PSA1+ clamp to the desk and hold broadcast mics like the PodMic in front of you, with the PSA1+ adding smoother movement and built-in cable management. The DS2 Desktop Studio Arm is a compact alternative for smaller desks.
