INTEL CORE ULTRA AND DDR5

Build around the way you use your PC

The Intel Z890 platform supports Intel Core Ultra desktop processors from Series 2. Choose a compatible processor for your gaming, editing or everyday workload, and pair the board with a case that supports its standard ATX size.

Four DDR5 memory slots support up to 256GB, giving you options for demanding applications and larger projects. Compatible memory profiles can simplify setup, while supported memory speeds depend on the processor, kit and configuration you choose.

SEVEN M.2 STORAGE SLOTS

Keep room for the next game or project

Seven M.2 slots let you expand storage as your library grows. Three support PCIe 5.0 SSDs and four support PCIe 4.0 SSDs, with four additional SATA connections available for compatible drives. You can keep games, recordings and work files on separate drives without filling every slot from the start.

Plan SSD placement before assembling the build. The M.2_3 and M.2_4 slots share a connection with the main graphics slot; using either makes that graphics slot operate at x8. Choosing the other storage positions first preserves its full x16 connection.

COOLING AND FAN CONTROL

Set the balance between cooling and noise

Large heatsinks cover the processor's power circuitry, while the M.2 Combo-Sink and additional storage heatsinks help manage SSD temperatures. These parts work alongside your case airflow and CPU cooler to support the complete build.

Dedicated connections for CPU cooling, an AIO pump and five case fans give you flexibility when arranging airflow. AI Cooling II and fan controls let you adjust how the system responds to changing temperatures and find a noise level that suits your desk.

THUNDERBOLT 4 AND USB

Give your peripherals their own place

Two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports provide fast connections for compatible external drives and docks. Alongside them are nine USB 10Gbps ports and three USB 5Gbps ports, leaving plenty of connections for your keyboard, mouse, webcam, audio equipment and other accessories.

One of the separate USB 10Gbps Type-C ports supports charging up to 30W with compatible devices and cables. An internal USB 20Gbps connector also supports a matching front USB-C port on your case for easier everyday access.

WIFI 7 AND 5GB ETHERNET

Connect the way your room allows

Use built-in WiFi 7 when a network cable is inconvenient, or connect through 5Gb Ethernet when your desk has a wired connection. With suitable network equipment, the wired connection can also help when moving large files to and from network storage. Bluetooth is included for compatible wireless accessories.

The ASUS WiFi Q-Antenna is included. Full WiFi 7 functionality requires Windows 11 24H2 or later and compatible network equipment, with available wireless bands and channel widths depending on regional regulations.

SETUP, AUDIO AND LIGHTING

Useful details beyond the first build

The Q-Code display and diagnostic lights help identify where to start if the system does not boot. BIOS FlashBack provides a way to update the motherboard before fitting a processor or memory, while the graphics-card release and M.2 latches make later component changes easier to manage.

SupremeFX audio provides connections for compatible speakers and headsets, including an optical output for suitable audio equipment. Polymo lighting and Aura Sync let you coordinate the illuminated ROG detail with other compatible lighting in your build.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

A few useful answers

Which processors does this motherboard support?

It supports Intel Core Ultra desktop processors from Series 2 using the LGA1851 socket. Check ASUS's CPU support list for the exact processor and required BIOS version.

Can I use DDR4 memory?

No. This motherboard requires DDR5 memory. Its four memory slots support up to 256GB, with supported speeds depending on the processor, memory kit and configuration.

How many M.2 SSDs can I install?

The board has seven M.2 slots: three support PCIe 5.0 and four support PCIe 4.0. The M.2_7 slot also supports compatible SATA M.2 drives. SSD size support varies by slot.

Can SSD placement affect the graphics-card connection?

Yes. M.2_3 and M.2_4 share bandwidth with the main graphics slot. Installing an SSD in either shared slot makes the graphics slot operate at x8 instead of x16. Check the slot layout before installing your drives.

What do I need for full WiFi 7 functionality?

Full WiFi 7 functionality requires Windows 11 24H2 or later, suitable drivers and compatible network equipment. Availability of the 6GHz band and 320MHz channels depends on regional regulations.

Can I update the BIOS without a processor or memory installed?

Yes. USB BIOS FlashBack supports this. The motherboard still needs power, the correct BIOS file and a USB drive prepared according to ASUS's instructions.
