A large display for immersive gaming

The 17.3-inch IPS-level panel uses a 1920 × 1080 resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Its wide 16:9 format suits games, videos and conventional desktop applications, while the larger physical size makes interface elements easier to view at a desk. Dedicated GeForce RTX 5060 graphics provide 8GB of GDDR7 memory for games and compatible creative software. MSI specifies up to 115W graphics power with Dynamic Boost and a boost clock up to 2497MHz. Actual performance varies with the workload, graphics settings and selected power mode.

Processing power for play and productivity

The Core i7-14650HX has 16 cores and 24 threads, with eight performance cores and eight efficient cores. It can boost up to 5.2GHz and includes 30MB Intel Smart Cache. This gives games, background applications and demanding productivity tasks a capable processor to share.

Memory and storage

The installed 16GB DDR5 RAM is supported by two SO-DIMM slots, with a platform maximum of 96GB and support up to DDR5-5600. A 512GB PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD holds Windows, software and files. This model has one M.2 storage slot, so a larger internal SSD replaces the installed drive.

Designed for everyday use

A four-zone RGB keyboard with Copilot key provides illuminated controls. The 720p camera, dual 2W speakers and audio combo jack support calls and entertainment. Firmware TPM 2.0 supplies platform security. A 75Wh four-cell battery and the included 240W adapter complete the power system.

Connect your complete setup

Three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports allow several everyday accessories to connect directly. A USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port adds DisplayPort output and Power Delivery 3.0 support, while HDMI 2.1 connects compatible external displays up to 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz. The RJ45 port provides a Gigabit Ethernet option for a fixed gaming desk. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 cover wireless networking and compatible peripherals. A combined microphone/headphone jack allows a wired headset to handle both game sound and voice chat.

Which configuration is this?

This is MSI Katana 17 HX B14WFK, part number 9S7-17L791-400, with Core i7-14650HX, RTX 5060 8GB, 16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD and Windows 11 Home. The colour is Black.

Can I upgrade the memory or SSD?

Memory is upgradeable through two SO-DIMM slots, with support for up to 96GB. The single PCIe Gen 4 M.2 slot is occupied by the supplied SSD; increasing internal storage requires replacing that drive.

What screen does this model have?

This configuration uses a 17.3-inch Full HD 1920 × 1080 IPS-level display at 144Hz. It is the FHD version, so its screen specification should not be confused with the separate QHD 240Hz configurations in the same family.

What should I know about size and power?

The laptop measures 398 × 275.6 × 27.8mm and weighs approximately 2.7kg. It includes a 75Wh battery and 240W AC adapter. Leave space for the adapter when selecting a carrying bag, and connect AC power for sustained gaming.
