What does X3D mean on AMD Ryzen processors?
X3D chips like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 9 9950X3D use AMD 3D V-Cache, a large stack of extra cache that helps many games run faster. If gaming is your main focus, an X3D processor is usually the place to start in each Ryzen tier.
Ryzen 7 9850X3D or Ryzen 9 9950X3D: which should I choose?
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D has 8 cores and is built mainly for gaming. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D steps up to 16 cores for heavy multitasking, streaming, video editing and 3D work alongside gaming, so choose it if your PC is also a serious work machine.
Do AMD AM5 processors need DDR5 memory?
Yes. AM5 processors such as the Ryzen 5 7600 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D work with DDR5 memory only, and DDR4 kits are not compatible. Pair them with an AM5 motherboard, as AM4 boards will not fit these chips.
Do AMD Ryzen processors come with a cooler?
Some do: the Ryzen 5 7600 includes a Wraith Stealth cooler, and the Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 7900 include a Wraith Prism. X3D models like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D do not include a cooler, so plan for a quality air cooler or AIO liquid cooler.
