SMART HOME FAQ
Before you buy.
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about smart home and smart lighting.
Where should I start with a smart home setup?
Smart lighting and smart plugs are the easiest first step, since they connect over Wi-Fi, run from a phone app and need no wiring. A few Govee bulbs or a TP-LINK TAPO Smart Plug let you schedule lights and devices before you expand into switches, cameras or speakers.
Do I need a hub for smart lights and plugs?
Most Wi-Fi devices, including Govee lights and TP-LINK TAPO plugs, connect directly to your home router and do not need a separate hub. Many of them use the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band, so make sure it is enabled on your router during setup.
What is the difference between RGB, RGBIC and RGBWW lighting?
RGB lights, like the Govee H615A2A3 strip, show one color at a time across the whole strip. RGBIC lights control segments separately, so they can show several colors at once for flowing effects. RGBWW bulbs, such as the Govee B600CCC1 2-Pack, add dedicated warm and cool white LEDs for cleaner everyday white light.
Do smart lights work with Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home?
Govee lights and TP-LINK TAPO plugs work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant once linked in their apps. For Apple Home, choose a Matter-compatible model such as the Govee RGBICW Smart Corner Floor Lamp H8076 Matter, since Matter devices can be added to Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa.
