Record the combination you need

Both front-panel combo inputs accept an XLR microphone or a 6.35 mm line or instrument connection. Record a singer and guitar, two microphones or a stereo keyboard without changing interfaces. Shared 48V phantom power supports compatible condenser microphones connected by XLR.

Shape your sound before the mix

Each preamp offers switchable Air mode for extra presence. Use the instrument setting for a direct guitar or bass signal, and the line setting for a compatible keyboard or other line source. The illuminated Gain Halos give you a clear visual cue while setting input levels.

Hear the performance as it happens

Direct Monitor offers mono and stereo monitoring without the delay of a software monitoring path. The rear balanced outputs feed powered monitors, while the dedicated headphone level knob lets you adjust headphones independently from the main output.

Keep the desktop setup simple

The 2i2 connects over USB-C using USB 2.0 and draws power from the computer. It records at up to 24-bit/192 kHz and works with compatible Windows and macOS recording systems. This is the third-generation model, with two physical input channels and no MIDI ports.

Plan the Session Around the Actual Inputs

Two microphone/line/instrument input paths provide two analogue recording channels. Choose the input mode for each source; a combo connector’s different plug options do not multiply the available channels. Assign the live sources before recording and choose the appropriate microphone, instrument or line setting for the connection you use.

Supply the Host Power the Interface Needs

The power arrangement is USB bus power. Use the specified cable and adequate host or external power. Check a mobile setup separately, as a matching USB connector does not guarantee the connected device supplies the required current.

Check the number of analogue recording channels, microphone preamps, digital expansion, MIDI, mobile support and supplied accessories when comparing interfaces. An Audio-Technica AT2020 XLR microphone requires 48 V phantom power; a Shure SM58 is a separate dynamic microphone choice. Use the correct XLR cable and microphone input. Beyerdynamic and Audio-Technica headphones provide listening alternatives, and Elgato controls complement a supported computer workflow. iD14 MKII desktop and ADAT functions do not include iD4 MKII’s supported iOS use. Mobile setups may require an adapter and external power. Choose the actual cables and recording software for the selected host.
