Record without setting input gain
The H4essential records 32-bit float WAV files so you can adjust recorded levels in compatible editing software with greater flexibility. Its two XLR/TRS inputs use dual A/D converter circuits. Sources must still remain within the microphone and input hardware's maximum levels.
Four inputs for music and dialogue
Capture a stereo room recording with the fixed 90° X/Y microphones and add two external microphones or line sources through the combo inputs. The built-in microphones handle up to 130 dB SPL. A 3.5 mm mic/line connection supports an external stereo source in place of the built-in microphones.
Monitor the mix as you record
The colour screen shows waveforms and lets you adjust the monitoring mix. A built-in speaker supports quick playback checks, while the stereo headphone/line output connects headphones or a camera. Audible menu guidance helps blind and visually impaired creators navigate the recorder.
Record to card and connect over USB-C
Use microSDHC or microSDXC media up to 1TB for standalone recording. USB audio mode provides four inputs and two outputs, with 24-bit or 32-bit float operation. Simultaneous USB interface and card recording uses 44.1 or 48 kHz; standalone recording and interface-only operation can reach 96 kHz.
Power a portable recording setup
Two AA batteries or a USB power source run the recorder. Optional Bluetooth and timecode adapters enable additional remote and synchronisation features with compatible devices. Memory cards, adapters, external microphones and headphones are separate purchases unless specified in the package.
