Choose your recording pattern

Select cardioid, omnidirectional or figure-8 pickup to suit a solo voice, the room or a two-sided recording setup. Aim the microphone toward the performer and listen to the actual recording while adjusting distance and angle for the voice, instrument and room.

Adapt to the source

Switch the pad between 0, −5 and −10 dB, and the high-pass filter between flat, 40 Hz and 80 Hz. Internal capsule shock mounting helps isolate mechanical vibration.

Three Patterns for Different Recording Positions

Cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-eight pickup provide different ways to work with the performer and room. Cardioid concentrates the main pickup toward the front; figure-eight captures from opposing sides, and omnidirectional capture includes sound around the microphone. Choose the pattern while listening to the actual source.

A Side-Address One-Inch Studio Capsule

The NT2-A uses a 1-inch condenser capsule and a side-address recording position. Aim the front of the microphone toward the performer for the chosen pattern. The microphone’s controls let you shape the capture arrangement before the signal reaches the connected recording equipment.

Power the XLR Microphone Input Correctly

The microphone requires 24 V or 48 V phantom power from a suitable XLR microphone input. Use an appropriate XLR-to-XLR cable and set input gain around the performance. This model does not include a USB recording interface; computer recording requires an external interface or mixer.
