MIC STANDS AT AX
Low-profile boom arms, desk and floor stands, and shock mounts from RODE, Elgato, Gator Frameworks and InnoGear that hold heavy mics steady and keep desk knocks out of the signal.
Low-profile boom arms keep the mic off camera and the desk clear; floor stands suit instruments and standing talent. Check the arm’s weight rating against the mic (an SM7B with a shock mount is heavy) and the thread size.

MICROPHONE STANDS AND MOUNTS FAQ
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about microphone stands and boom arms.
A boom arm like the RØDE PSA1+ clamps to the desk and brings the mic close to your mouth while keeping it off the desk surface. A desk stand such as the Elgato Wave Desk Stand is simpler and easy to move, but sits further away and picks up more desk bumps and keyboard noise.
Low-profile arms, like the Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP, stay low and flat so they keep out of your camera shot and line of sight. Classic spring arms, such as the RØDE PSA1, rise higher above the desk and offer more reach, which suits podcast setups and larger desks.
Most arms use the standard 5/8-inch mic thread, and a small adapter handles mics with a 3/8-inch thread. Also check the arm's rated weight against your mic plus any shock mount, as heavier broadcast mics need a sturdier arm like the RØDE DS2 Desktop Studio Arm.
Most boom arms attach with a desk clamp, and some also support a grommet mount through a cable hole. Check the clamp's maximum desk thickness, avoid thin glass tops and leave room behind the desk so the arm can move freely.
