SHURE FAQ
Before you buy.
Straight answers to the questions we hear most about Shure microphones and monitoring gear.
SM7B or SM7dB: which Shure broadcast mic should I choose?
Both share the same dynamic broadcast sound. The SM7dB adds a built-in preamp, powered by phantom power, that boosts its signal so it works well with a standard audio interface. The SM7B has a low output and suits setups that already have a high-gain preamp or an inline booster.
Which MV7 model should I pick: MV7+, MV7X or MV7i?
The MV7+ connects by USB or XLR, so it plugs straight into a computer or into an audio interface. The MV7X is XLR only, made for interface and mixer setups, and the MV7i adds a built-in interface so you can connect a second mic or an instrument.
Is the Shure SM58 a good choice for streaming and podcasting?
The SM58 is a durable cardioid dynamic vocal mic built for live stages, and it also handles voice recording well when you speak close to it. It connects by XLR, so it needs an audio interface or mixer to reach your computer.
Are the Shure SE215 earphones good for monitoring?
Yes. The SE215 are sound isolating in-ear earphones with a 3.5mm cable, widely used by musicians and creators for stage and desk monitoring. The isolation blocks outside noise, so you can hear your voice clearly at a lower volume.
