GoXLR vs GoXLR Mini: the essentials

GoXLR vs GoXLR Mini is mainly a decision about physical controls and effects: both belong in a planned Windows streaming audio setup.

Same core, different extras

The GoXLR and GoXLR Mini solve the same streaming problem: getting your microphone, game, chat, music and system sounds under control without opening five apps mid-match. Both are four-fader USB mixers and audio interfaces with an XLR microphone input, voice processing and a routing table that decides what reaches your headphones and what reaches your stream.

The full GoXLR adds a dedicated voice effects section, a sampler and motorized faders. The Mini keeps the mixing and voice processing core in a smaller, USB-powered unit. Choose around the features you will actually use every stream, not the longest feature list.

Both use the same TC-Helicon software for routing and voice settings, so moving from a Mini to a full GoXLR later does not mean learning a new workflow.

Choose the full GoXLR if your stream is a show

Pick the GoXLR when sound is part of the entertainment. The effects section lets you switch your voice to a robot, megaphone or a pitched character with one button, and the sampler fires intros, sound bites and reactions without alt-tabbing to another app.

The motorized faders matter when you use more than one profile. Load a different setup for a podcast, a solo stream or a late-night chill session and the faders move to the saved levels, so what you see on the desk always matches what your audience hears.

Choose the GoXLR Mini if you want clean control

The Mini suits competitive players, co-streamers and podcasters who want a clean voice and quick volume control, not effects. You still get physical faders for game, chat, music and mic, the same voice processing tools and the same routing approach, in a unit that takes much less desk space.

Because the Mini is powered over USB, it runs on a single cable to your PC. That keeps a compact desk tidy and makes it easy to move between rooms.

Plan the microphone side

Both mixers have one XLR input, so plan around one main microphone. A dynamic broadcast microphone such as the GoXLR MIC is a natural match because it rejects much of the room and keyboard noise around a gaming desk.

Low-output dynamic microphones need a lot of clean gain. If you are considering a Shure SM7B, read our SM7dB vs SM7B guide first and set your levels with a test recording before going live. A sturdy boom arm keeps the microphone close to your mouth, which does more for clarity than any effect.

Consoles, second PCs and Mac users

The optical input brings in audio from devices that have an optical output, such as some TVs or HDMI audio extractors, so you can mix that audio alongside your PC sources. Current consoles do not always offer an optical output, so check your exact setup first.

The GoXLR app runs on Windows. If you record on a Mac or want to plug two computers into one desk unit, compare the RØDECaster Duo and Pro II, which connect two computers or mobile devices over USB-C.

Setup tips for a cleaner stream

  • Gain first: set the microphone level while speaking at your normal streaming volume, then add the noise gate and compressor.
  • Separate chat: keep Discord or party chat on its own fader so you can turn friends down without touching the game.
  • Check both mixes: what you hear in your headphones and what goes to the stream can be different. Record a short test clip and listen back.
  • Save profiles: keep separate profiles for streaming, podcasting and calls so your settings are one click away.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add effects to the GoXLR Mini later?

No. The Mini does not include the effects section or sampler. If you think you will want voice effects, start with the full GoXLR.

Do I still need a separate audio interface?

No. Both units are USB audio interfaces as well as mixers, with an XLR input for your microphone.

Can I use a gaming headset microphone?

Yes. Both have a 3.5 mm headset microphone input, although a dedicated XLR microphone will usually sound more natural.
